Gordon Smith  > Landscapes > Montana > Montana
One of the premier fishing rivers of the west is the Madison River and I have the good fortune to visit there every summer. My father built a cabin in the valley about 25 years ago and annual visits there and to nearby Yellowstone National Park are highlights of every summer. The cool mountain air, the strong winds, the incredible big sky make it rich in photographic potential. These are a few of my favorites shots from this area.

Gordon Smith > Lone tree and Sphinx Mountain. (If you look carefully at a large version of this photo, you can see 2 red-tailed hawks in this tree.)
Gordon Smith > Big Clouds can fit in Big Sky country. This enormous cloud just hung right over this small lonely tree. The rest of the sky was clear.

Gordon Smith > Union City is an abandoned gold mining community that flourished in the mountains south of Virginia City. Now abandoned, the stone buildings are all that remain as the forest closes in.
