Gordon Smith  > Landscapes > New Mexico > Bisti Badlands
Bisti Badlands is part of the Bisti/De Na Zin Wilderness area. My pilgrimage to the Bisti Badlands included two journeys for sunsets, a sunrise and a full moonrise. The lunar landscape hypnotized and delighted to no end. One could explore here for weeks without seeing everything. I took a flashlight and GPS to help find my way in before sunrise and find my way out after sunset. Believe me, it's profoundly quiet and isolated.

I wandered far north on the Bisti wilderness to find these stone wings. I had seen pictures of them and was determined to discover them. After climbing multiple hills in the badlands, I finally saw them in the distance and got there just as the sun was setting. If you would like some directions, e-mail me for more information.
