Bisti Badlands is part of the Bisti/De Na Zin Wilderness area. My pilgrimage to the Bisti Badlands included two journeys for sunsets, a sunrise and a full moonrise. The lunar landscape hypnotized and delighted to no end. One could explore here for weeks without seeing everything. I took a flashlight and GPS to help find my way in before sunrise and find my way out after sunset. Believe me, it's profoundly quiet and isolated.
At the "Egg Factory" section, about 1 mile in from the parking area, many sculpted eggs are hatching in the most amazing formations. This was a wonderland for me. I stayed for the sun to completely set, shooting nonstop. After the sun set, I used a headlamp and GPS to find my way back to the car a mile away. The eerie quiet of this place in the dark is quite an experience.
