Adobe church: light and shadow #1 - Gordon Smith Fine Art Photography

This is a collection of shots from around central and northern New Mexico from my trip there in 2007. I loved Santa Fe and the beautiful road to Taos, with the lovely churches along the way. Another favorite of mind was Bandelier NM and the Jemez River valley.

Gordon Smith > This is from Chaco Canyon. In the largest structures, there are several doors that are aligned in a way to make this picture possible. However, one often has to wait for all the people visiting to exit.

Gordon Smith > Although churches are not typical landscape shots, the churches of New Mexico become part of the landscape and the identity of that area. This particular church was a favorite of Georgia O'Keefe because is a beautiful shades of color and curves in its structure. It is the most beautiful church I've photographed. A clergyman that worked in this church came out and was about to leave in his car when he saw me taking photographs. He came over and spoke to me in the most friendly terms and it was easy to see that he loved serving in this church. He wished me well.

Gordon Smith > Sancturio de Chimano on the Road to Taos: A lovely church.

Gordon Smith > Rio Grande River Gorge as taken from a bridge that goes over it. As I set up my tripod on the bridge, I discovered that the bridge with vibrate up and down every time a car would cross. This vibration became quite severe with large trucks!

Gordon Smith > Rio Grande River as taken from White Rock Overlook. I had hoped to get some beautiful sunset pictures from this location but instead I got a snowstorm that was just beginning. I stayed on the rim for about 15 minutes trying to get a few pictures before giving up as I was enclosed in a cloud.

Gordon Smith > Near echo canyon and ghost ranch. This is a combination of multiple shots, more than 12.

Gordon Smith > Jemez River Valley in autumn. This beautiful tree caught my attention because of its slight diagonal shape and beautiful colors.
