Gordon Smith  > Landscapes > Utah > Grand Staircase Escalante NM
Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument (GSENM)is a huge area filled with extremely beautiful rock formations. I feel like I've only scratched the surface of a deep and varied land. This gallery includes some landscape shots from around the monument. A visit to the little-known Yellow Rock was awesome and so colorful. The Paria Badlands, Toadstool Hoodoo and Grovesnor Arch are also fabulous finds. Also see the Wahweap Hoodoo gallery. They are part of the GSENM, but I felt they deserved their own gallery (I am very fond of them).

Gordon Smith > Paria Badlands #3
Gordon Smith > Paria cemetery. This community was abandoned more than 100 years ago because the Paria River would flood occasionally. The cemetery is all that is left. Paria has also been the site of several Western movies.

Gordon Smith > Grovesnor Arch. This is taken at the base of the arch shooting up with a wide angle lens. There is some distortion which is fairly obvious but it does portray the towering nature of this very impressive arch.
Gordon Smith > This is a picture of the largest toadstool hoodoo located just east of the Paria BLM ranger station. It's fairly easy to get to this area. This was shot after the sun went down and so there are not any right shadows or contrasts in this picture.
