British Virgin Islands Sailing (BVI) : Jan 2008: Sailing the BVI for one glorious week! We rented a "bare boat" from Tortola Marine Management (TMM). Our ship was the "Midori". The Midori was a catamaran with four comfortable bedrooms and 4 miniscule bathrooms. Arriving late that night, we found that our luggage hadn't made it. Fortunately it came the next morning before we shoved off from land to begin this great trip. Our journey took us to Jost Van Dyke, Little Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, Virgin Gorda (no relation to me), and finally to Cooper Island. We SCUBA dove around Sandy Spit and also visited the fabulous wreck of the HMS Rhone. Great memories.

White Rim Trail Bike Adventure : Our trip to the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park began with a exciting start: Moab was being threatened by a fire that caused our hotel to be evacuated. Fortunately, things improved from there. It was around 36°F when we started riding our bike down the Shafer Trail. The sun was shining and we warmed up and enjoyed a great day. Musselman Arch and Airport Butte were good stopping points for lunch and snacks before camping at Gooseberry. After a freezing night, we ate and warmed up before starting on another day of bicycling. We passed Monument Basin and visited the incredibly scenic White Crack. Then we made our way to Candlestick campground for the next evening. Candlestick was extremely scenic for sunset and sunrise. On our last day, we traveled next to the Green River much of the time before finally ending our great adventure back atop the Island in the Sky of Canyonlands. 3 days, 2 nights. 7 bikes, 2 support vehicles. 9 people, great stories.

Subway Canyoneering Hike : The Subway Canyon (Left Fork North Creek) in Zion National Park is a unique hike that requires some special equipment and also a permit from the Ranger Station. This is a description with photos from the "top down" route which requires swimming, repelling, and hiking. I went with a group of friends and hope this helps to show you what our experience was like and encourage you to enjoy this great and photogenic slot canyon. You may also want to see my Zion Landscape gallery which includes shots of the Subway during a snowstorm. That time I hiked "from the bottom up" and didn't see all the areas that are included in "top down" route here.
