Gordon Smith  > Travel > British Virgin Islands Sailing (BVI)
Jan 2008: Sailing the BVI for one glorious week! We rented a "bare boat" from Tortola Marine Management (TMM). Our ship was the "Midori". The Midori was a catamaran with four comfortable bedrooms and 4 miniscule bathrooms. Arriving late that night, we found that our luggage hadn't made it. Fortunately it came the next morning before we shoved off from land to begin this great trip. Our journey took us to Jost Van Dyke, Little Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, Virgin Gorda (no relation to me), and finally to Cooper Island. We SCUBA dove around Sandy Spit and also visited the fabulous wreck of the HMS Rhone. Great memories.

This gallery focuses on our experience as tourists. For just my landscape shots without all the people, please see my BVI Landscape Page. Please enjoy the trip with us.

Gordon Smith > When we arrived at Anegada, the overcast clouds left us and bright sunlight lit up the water like never before. We all jumped in here and swam without a care in the world!

Gordon Smith > Sometimes you do crazy things for photography. This is one of them: I got a taxi ride from Leverick Bay to the Baths at 5:30 AM so that I could be there at first light. Although we hiked down to the beach by flashlight, it's a decision I'll never regret because my wife and I enjoyed the famous Baths beach in solitude for 2.5 hours! What a great sense of discovery and wonder we had as we hiked the trail around and under boulders. The light was pretty good too. At about 9 AM, suddenly there were 200 tourists on the beach. Party over.
