Miscellaneous Information

Coldest Moment: After falling into icy water hiking up the Subway in Zion, it began to snow and high winds ran through the canyon. My fingers were completely numb as I took my photos before hiking 4 miles out!
Toughest Hike: Into and out of Kolob Arch the same day (17 miles)
No Fear of These: Mud, getting wet, and throwing my camera into water (as long as it's in a waterproof camera bag)
Favorite Food when taking pictures: Cliff Protein builder bar (keeps me going up the trails)
Earliest I've woken up to get a sunrise shoot: 2:30 AM

Weighty Matters

As my love for photographs grows, my camera bag grows heavier!!! I recently moved up to a professional camera body, the Canon EOS 1Ds-Mark III. I shoot with a variety of lenses from 17mm up to 300mm. For a complete list of what I use and find helpful, please see my Equipment Page. My most used and favorites are the 35/f1.4 L, 17-40/4 L, 50/1.4, 135/2 L and 300/2.8 L IS.

Why I Love Landscape Photography

Plain and simple, I love seeing the sunrise or sunset in some of the most beautiful land in the world. Taking photographs helps me get out there in the first place, but also allows me to remember that moment in time again and again. I love to see my Yellow Rock pictures and remember the most beautiful sunset in my life.

As I learn more, I enjoy the challenge of new conditions and new photography genre's (still life, portrait, sports, etc.).

Recognition

It's fun to get a little recognition now and then. I had a photograph featured on National Geographic's website last year and been published in St. George Magazine. The local camera club had me as a guest lecturer discussing composition and landscape photography.

Local galleries have had my photos on display and I won 2nd place at the Zions Staircase Gallery 2009 exhibit and have photos in several of their exhibitions. I've also published 3 pictures in a state calendar.

I've had the distinct honor of being part of the "Visions of Zion" exhibit of the St. George Art Museum, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of Zion National Park.
