I shot this great canyon the last day of the month. Still high water flows because of our heavy (still melting) snowpack this year!
On the so-called "Ditch hike" to the Poomau overlook, we passed through some of the prettiest parts of Kauai we've seen anywhere. This triple waterfall is what we looked down upon from a perch on the far side of the canyon.
Please see my blog for a complete description of the hike!

Day in Paradise
Guardian of Paradise
One of my favorite photos from my Kauai trip, this is Guardian Falls on the Wailua River. This places is deep, deep in the jungle and took us a half day to reach. We were rewarded with a private paradise of jungle showers and smooth rocks: this is a super place to take a swim! This shot was taken just as we were leaving to go back to civilization and shows the huge waterfall in its' lush canyon. Enjoy!
A shot taken shortly after sunset on Polihale Beach
This waterfall takes a good half-day hike to reach as it goes on the worst trail I've ever experienced through thick jungle and up the boulder-strewn river.
Spinning in a ruined old building.
This large rock sits out in the middle of Nowhere, Utah. It's barely supported by small legs, but by putting my camera on the ground, I was able to see through the window of it's legs to a massive arch in the distance. This is my favorite photo from 2011.
I was asked to take some senior portraits by my sister of her daughter. Here she is. My niece was backlight well by the setting sun coming in through a window. I used a fill-in flash to balance the lighting and made this shot.

We visited just before the threatened government shutdown. What a great piece of architecture!
Kauai interior canyons glow with green lushness. This is Po'omau canyon in Koke'e State Park.

Waterfalls everywhere. From this view, I could see Guardians falls ahead of me and yet I was standing right next to the double waterfall that I showed in the last two pictures.

Secret Waterfall, Kauai
Not quite a natural "landscape" but one that I feel is worthy to share here because of its lighting and impact.

I made the trek to Neon Canyon in search of the aptly named "Golden Cathedral." The "moderate" hike ended up being pretty strenuous in my opinion, about 8 miles in all but over sand, sandstone, cacti, down a cliff, then wading across a moderately flowing Escalante river and then up a slot canyon. Whew!
Temperature at start: 31 degrees. Blister count at end: 1. Was it worth it? Oh yeah! Shot with 24 tilt-shift lens to prevent distortion
Unnamed Falls of Kauai.
This one is difficult to walk to because the road hugs the trail so closely that you don't want to get run over by the passing automobiles! But I did find it and took this photo.
Thomas Jefferson Memorial
The National Cathedral in Washington DC has so many architectural wonders, it's a pleasure to look around in any direction (especially the ceiling). This hallway in the upper gallery caught my attention.

Where the River Divides
This shot is from just above Ho'opi wafterfall along the Kapa'a river on Kauai. The falls are wonderful, but the stream above the waterfall is a peaceful, natural garden. With the sunlight streaming through, I snapped this shot.
