A shot taken shortly after sunset on Polihale Beach
In the Trees at Calf Creek Waterfall
North Coyote Buttes Panorama with the North Teepees on the left and the South Teepees on the right. "Big Mac" rock is very small and near the center of this picture.
The Ultimate Jump Shot
This picture was a 2nd place winner in the Zion Staircase Gallery competition, 2009.
Applying for a permit for the Subway hike can be a dangerous and uncertain experience. I applied for a permit for the middle of April, expecting the weather to be mild but pleasant. A freak late-spring storm brought snow and chilling winds instead. Although the hiking had cooler weather, the snow and higher water level made the waterfalls profoundly beautiful in a way that I've not ever seen before in pictures.
This scenic small church sits atop the Gardena Pass, high in the Dolomites of Italy. The morning sun lit up the small beacon. Even in summer, the morning was bitter cold.
"Castle Hill Lighthouse" (Newport, Rhode Island)
Hiking up Kanarra Creek, we reached this waterfall. This was the fourth or fifth small waterfall during the hike. However, to climb the ladder at its' base, one would have to take a heavy cold shower. Therefore, I took this photo and we turned back. Please enjoy.
Water imitates land
Grand Canyon stacks rocks and millennia like pancakes.
Tower of Silence.
This was taken in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. This spring there were some yellow wildflowers which made it even more special to visit at sunrise.
Sandstone funnel from the North Teepees of Coyote Buttes
Yellow-bellied Marmots. These 2 were part of a larger family of at least 5 marmots that we saw here. I was hiking with only my wide-angle lens, but I ran back to the car to get my 300 mm after we found this cute bunch! They ran all around and posed even. My kids especially loved them.
This is my first black and white shot (with sepia toning) that I felt good about. I'm really starting to see the potential strengths of this field.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes
Summer monsoon thundershowers make a stormy arrival at Coral Pink Sand Dunes state park
This large rock sits out in the middle of Nowhere, Utah. It's barely supported by small legs, but by putting my camera on the ground, I was able to see through the window of it's legs to a massive arch in the distance. This is my favorite photo from 2011.
West Entrance to the Wave. Wow, what an entrance!
Dawn In Death Valley
Worshipping At Woton's Throne
This is my favorite shot from my first trip ever to the Grand Canyon. Woton's Throne sits on the North Rim at Cape Royal. This sunrise is the most beautiful sunrise I've seen in my entire life. Arguably, this is my favorite shot from the year 2009 as well.
Slot Canyon, Autumn Leaves
in Kanarra creek. This wonderful view of autumn leaves and a flowing creek was taken during a late autumn rain. I took 6 images to fit the curved slot canyon walls in the image. The distant glorious trees draw the view in.
Cow Wreck Beach
on northern Anegada is empty, lovely, beautiful and waiting for just one person to take the whole thing. This soft sand was some of the finest I've ever walked on and the water is a hypnotic blue.
This sand dollar shot in my home-made desktop macro studio really is a perfect object for high contrast and selective focusing. The star shines brilliantly in the center!
A break from my typical landscapes in this gallery, but a true representative of my photography this month.
I was asked to take some senior portraits by my sister of her daughter. Here she is. My niece was backlight well by the setting sun coming in through a window. I used a fill-in flash to balance the lighting and made this shot.
Earth tones :)
This lone photographer set up tripod and gear near the cliff's edge at Alstrom Point. I thought he was a great photo subject himself.
From Pfeiffer Beach on a very cloudy morning before the sun actually rose, this 2 second exposure was meant to contrast the moving waves and the stillness of the seaweed and rocky islands.
Granite and Gold
A shot from Garrapata State Park north of Big Sur, this subtle two-toned coastline with its' unsympathetic waves caught my heart.
Red Sky at Night Sailors Delight
These two sailboats in Little Harbor, Peter Island were safely anchored for the night. The broad reach of clouds darkly stretched across an orange sky as the night enveloped us.

The Biggest Sky
This rock keeping its' head above the water captured my attention as I waded up the Zion Narrows.
Way Out of Line
My first macro/abstract shot to be featured in this gallery.
