Red Sky at Night Sailors Delight
These two sailboats in Little Harbor, Peter Island were safely anchored for the night. The broad reach of clouds darkly stretched across an orange sky as the night enveloped us.
This sand dollar shot in my home-made desktop macro studio really is a perfect object for high contrast and selective focusing. The star shines brilliantly in the center!
A break from my typical landscapes in this gallery, but a true representative of my photography this month.
Beautiful spire lace rock of Coyote Buttes North (the Wave) seen here in full sunshine and beautiful blue sky.
This location was at the top of a snow-covered sandstone mountain. That's a slippery climb to get to the top!
A shot taken shortly after sunset on Polihale Beach
Portal Arch in the Morning
Taking a guess that this site would be best in the morning light, I hiked in before dawn. Luck was with me this day and light clouds like cotton candy dotted the sky. Portal Arch received the morning light a glowed beautifully.
Spirit of Adventure
Lower Hanawi Waterfall is a remote, difficult-to-reach spectacle that defies description. The light rays coming over the waterfall brightly shone on the lush ferns covering the canyon walls. The mist from the falls floated fall down the canyon. No other adventure has had such a huge reward at the end: This enormous waterfall was enjoyed by only myself for 3 hours. I had no visitors. Plenty of time for a swim and photography!
This photo is a photostitch of 4 different pictures taken with a 24mm shift lens (for perspective control and to avoid wide-angle lens distortion).
Hiking up Kanarra Creek, we reached this waterfall. This was the fourth or fifth small waterfall during the hike. However, to climb the ladder at its' base, one would have to take a heavy cold shower. Therefore, I took this photo and we turned back. Please enjoy.
Water imitates land
Grand Canyon stacks rocks and millennia like pancakes.
Slot Canyon, Autumn Leaves
in Kanarra creek. This wonderful view of autumn leaves and a flowing creek was taken during a late autumn rain. I took 6 images to fit the curved slot canyon walls in the image. The distant glorious trees draw the view in.
Sandy Spit as seen from Green Cay. The three palm trees caught the low light as the sunset approached. Beautiful waves beat against this small speck of an island.
Lower Falls on the 13 Crossing Hike.
Stone stacks added a zen-like serenity to the beautiful location as we arrived and basked in the Hawaiian beauty.
This is the last and most treacherous crossing as you must climb up the green hill on the right and then cross the upper part of the waterfall as you climb up to the next safe, flat place.
This large rock sits out in the middle of Nowhere, Utah. It's barely supported by small legs, but by putting my camera on the ground, I was able to see through the window of it's legs to a massive arch in the distance. This is my favorite photo from 2011.
Cow Wreck Beach
on northern Anegada is empty, lovely, beautiful and waiting for just one person to take the whole thing. This soft sand was some of the finest I've ever walked on and the water is a hypnotic blue.
Padre Canyon is one of the most beautiful locations inside Snow Canyon State Park. A beautiful waterfall formed during a heavy downpour.
Koki Beach and Alau Island
just south of Hana, Koki beach has gorgeous sand and the Alau Island off shore makes for a sight at sunrise. The stormy clouds gathered before dawn, but enough orange light came through to make my day. This is my favorite sunrise of the trip to Maui.
I was asked to take some senior portraits by my sister of her daughter. Here she is. My niece was backlight well by the setting sun coming in through a window. I used a fill-in flash to balance the lighting and made this shot.
Earth tones :)
This lone photographer set up tripod and gear near the cliff's edge at Alstrom Point. I thought he was a great photo subject himself.
