To keep the artistic juices flowing, I have created this gallery of my "best of the best" photographs (or the ones I like the most). Each month I have taken the challenge to keep shooting, getting out to a new location or visiting a familiar one another time. This motivates me to shoot year round. These are the photos that I hang on my wall at home or work. These show mother nature at her best. Because this goes back 11 years, I sincerely hope that this demonstrates some improvement in my photography over time. :)
April 2018: Joe Blake's Wildflowers are found on Joe Blake Hill (of course) in the rustic and remote northern Arizona Strip. Yellow wildflowers, lava rock and the painted sandstone colors intensify at dusk.
September 2016: Kanab Point Sunrise! The first bright sun rays lighten the huge towers of stone at Kanab Point. The deep Grand Canyon and Kanab Creek are far below this high perch. This is a fantastic landscape photography location.
November 2015: Gregory Butte Peak and La Verkin Creek
Just after sunset, I stood beside La Verkin creek and photographed autumn leaves and Gregory Butte peak. The Kolob canyon section of Zion national park is renown for its' majestic scenery.
August 2018: Majestic Death Hollow Canyon: the stream has volcanic boulders, the cliffs are enormous white, the grass and trees thrive in this oasis. This is a gorgeous destination for any off-the-beaten-path adventurer.
March 2018: Deep Toroweap. The 3,000 foot drop at Toroweap inspires and frightens. The edge of the cliff looks straight down to the Colorado River below. Red cliffs, beautiful skies and fine details in the foreground show all the details of landscape photography.
March 2016: Nest and Tree Surrounded by Sand Dunes. The North Algodones Sand Dunes is a protected wilderness area with incredible sweeping sand dunes. A lonely tree stands lost in the middle of these imperial dunes. Amazingly, it contains a nest and shows signs of life in this dry place.
October 2015: Clouds Stretch Across the Morning Sky
Mosida is a pioneer trek site in central Utah. The grasslands and open spaces are beautiful. This beautiful morning the elements of nature were lovely indeed.
February 2018: Half and Half is famous among stones for the split personality with half being yellow and half being purple. The lines and stripes run through the stone and along in surrounding grounds. This amazing little stone is gorgeous!
September 2017 (second selection): Ngau, A Tropical Tongan Island. Crystal aquamarine waters, powdery sand, palm trees make this the perfect island paradise. This adventure can only be reached by sailboat.
February 2016: Yant Flat Fins Leading to the Turtle Shell: one of my favorite photos from this amazing St. George landscape location. I loved how this fins lined up toward the yellow sandstone turtle shell formation. These fins are extremely delicate and fragile.
June 2018: Storm in Hell Hole Canyon brings out waterfalls and wet leaves. Water everywhere in this beautiful desert canyon. Summer monsoon season around St. George, Utah can surprise me with beauty like this.
June 2016: Prebend's Bridge Morning, a silent and peaceful spot along the Wear River. This Durham Bridge is most beautifully seen from one of the lovely walks along the river. Green trees hang over each bank. The stone bridge has three wonderful arches.
August 2015: Sunrise at Lake Powell, Utah. Curved sandstone slopes out of deep, dark water creating a wonderful aesthetic geometry at sunrise. Leading lines and low light make this a beautiful landscape.
December 2017: Hell Hole Waterfall: this sporadic waterfall is tricky to catch. I've hiked here several times in the rain only to get no waterfall. This year I was in the canyon during the rain and watched and heard the water begin its' plummet of 800 feet.
October 2016: Beachy Head Lighthouse stands below the high white cliffs of Beachy Head. The high cliffs make this red and white stripe lighthouse look small. Here I zoomed in to see the watery isolation of this sizeable tower.
May 2016; Black Rock Cottage Sunrise. I had beginners luck in Scotland as this was my first sunrise. The clouds aligned perfectly within the mountain peaks just as the morning color materialized. Black Rock Cottage is such a beautiful icon of Scotland and the highlands. Buachaille Etive Mor stands in the purple distance.
